Peaceful”, “a carp angler’s
haven”, “a real carpy
looking lake”, and “we still
don’t know what’s in there” are
certain words and expressions
that guarantee to get
CARPology into a spin of
excitement. Even the name,
Little Horseshoe gets you giddy.
“We still don’t fully know
what the stock of the lake is
currently, because every other
weekend it throws up a new
high twenty or thirty!” Adrian
Davey, this month’s The Job’s
star (P44), told us.
Until Adrian took over at
Watermark Fisheries – the
company that controls Little
Horseshoe – the lake had been
left. You know the type of thing:
overgrown, low stocking levels
– basically it had died. Now,
some two years on, Little
Horseshoe can only be
described at the “ultimate
stalkers water”. At a tad over
41/2-acres, the pond is rich with
gravel bars, gullies, bars, lilies,
varied depths and an island.
“It has now produced nine

“ different thirties, along with
numerous twenties and high
doubles. Adrian continued: “Not
only is it producing such a high
stamp of fish, but the quality is
there too. There’s mirrors, fully
scaled, leathers, commons –
there’s even a few ghost carp
and a catfish!”
And as you’d expect for a
lake that is situated in the
Cotswolds and being so
beautiful, it has caught the eye
of some of the big players.
Keith and Dave Sykes are big
fans, so is our best buddy, Li’l
Nige Sharp. Jim Foster has
dangled down here, and
recently Hardy Greys (Chub
and Greys) wanted to hold
their “corporate break” here.
“We predict there to be over
400 carp in Little Horseshoe at
present – and the fish are
growing all the time. The
numbers of high doubles,
twenties and thirties coming
out is causing quite a stir
around the area at the
moment,” Adrian concluded.
So has this little piece of
